Origin

The hentai is inspired on Yakin Byoutou (夜勤病棟), an eroge produced by Mink and released on December 22, 1999.

The production company Discovery released its first animated episode on December 8, 2000. With a total of ten OVAs, the animated series ended on January 30, 2004

Story

Hirasaka Ryuuji works as a gynecologist in a small hospital, and at first glance is a simple man. However, underneath his mask and concealed madness is a man who lusts after women to violate their bodies and use them as experiments.

One day, he received a request to work part-time as a doctor from St. Juliana Hospital, a prestigious and well-known private hospital. There he encountered his classmate from his days as a medical student, Jinguuji Narumi.
Eight years ago, Ryuuji attacked her in a laboratory, performing experiments on her body. Ryuuji, fearing this former incident being made public, receives a surprising request from Narumi.

Yakin Byoutou received a very positive reception in Japan, driven in part by the popularity of the original eroge, but also by the quality of the direction in its animated adaptation.

However, abroad its reception was much more controversial due to its dark storyline and explicit scenes.

Because of the controversy surrounding its release in America and Europe, Yakin Byoutou is considered one of the most graphic hentai titles in history, known for its highly obscene and perverted content.

The hentai was animated by AT-2 Project and directed by Okesawa Hisashi.

Yuu Mikage, the voice actress for Ren Nanase, is also known for voicing Piko, the main character of Boku no Piko.
The hentai is also known as Night Shift Nurses thanks to its uncensored English release.
Several minutes of Night Shift Nurses had to be censored in the United States due to its highly controversial content.
In addition to its American release, the hentai was also distributed in France.
