Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King Movie Delayed to June

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King movie has been delayed to June 16 from the previously scheduled March 31 premiere date. The movie will screen in Japan and Netflix will be streaming it worldwide. The cause of the delay was the effect the COVID-19 pandemic had on the production schedule. Studio Pierrot is animating the movie.

The movie was first announced in March of 2021. It will feature the previous Wizard King, whose name is Conrad. He is voiced by Toshihiko Seki and can be seen in the official teaser trailer for the movie. Fumiya Takahashi and Marie Itoyo are also joining the cast as Jester and Milly. The cast from TV anime are reprising their roles – Gakuto Fujiwara is Asta.

The main staff for Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King includes Ayataka Tanemura as the director, Itsuko Takeda as the character designer and Minako Seki ias the music composer. Johnny Onda is credited as one of the scriptwriters. The story will feature the previous Wizard King Conrad and tell an original story supervised by the Black Clover author Yuki Tabata.

The Black Clover manga by has been serialized in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since 2015, and it entered its final arc in August. It’s available to read on Viz Media’s websiteMANGA Plus website, and the Shonen Jump mobile app in English. It received a 170-episode anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot, which ran from 2017 to 2021. Crunchyroll streamed the anime, and describes the story as:
In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any. At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires, magic books that amplify their holder’s magic. Asta’s is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent’s spells. Being opposite but good rivals, Yuno and Asta are ready for the hardest of challenges to achieve their common dream: to be the Wizard King. Giving up is never an option!

Black Clover movie is the latest in line of anime delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many seasonals and upcoming anime have been affected, mainly due to outsourcing that is done with studios in China.
