The anime is returning after 3 years, with studio MAPPA in charge of the sequel’s animation. Shuhei Yabuta is returning as director, and he said that the rest of the main staff for the anime would also be be returning. The staff for the first episode includes:
- Episode Director: Nobuyoshi Arai, Yousuke Yamamoto
- Storyboard: Shuhei Yabuta
- Animation Directors: Yukie Suzuki, Kenji Wakasa, Ayano Fujita, Miyuki Honda, LEE MI YOUNG, Akiko Kudo, Toshiko Inada
They’ve also revealed the episode 1 preview, which is titled “Slave” and has an official synopsis:
Einar, a young man from the north of England, lived with his mother and younger sister in a quiet farming town. However, one day the farming village is destroyed by a Viking attack and Einar’s life changes completely. Now, once again, the saga of true warriors begins in a turbulent era…
The main cast is returning for the second season. Yuto Uemura will be Thorfinn once again, Kensho Ono is Canute, Yoji Ueda as Leif, Akio Otsuka as Thorkell, Hideaki Tezuka as Ketil, Shinsuke Takeuchi as Einar, Mayumi Sako as Arnheid, Taiten Kusunoki as Thorgil, Fuminori Komatsu as Snake, Muhihito as Sverkel and Yu Hayashi as Olmar. A new millennium begins in the southern part of the Jutland peninsula in Denmark. After the death of his longtime enemy, Askeladd, Thorfinn lost his purpose in life. He was bought by the landowner Ketil as a “slave” and engaged in land reclamation work on his farm. Thorfinn meets a young man there, Einar, who was also a slave like him.
