BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- Story:
The kingdom of Metallicana is under attack from the Four Lords of Havoc. This party of villains—ninja master Gara, deadly thunder empress Nei Arshes, cold and calculating Kall-Su, and enigmatic dark priest Abigail—will stop at nothing to get what they want, even if it leaves utter destruction in their wake. High Priest Geo is desperate to help save the kingdom and its people. He unleashes the mighty wizard Dark Schneider, a man who used to be an ally of the villains. Unfortunately, Dark Schneider has his own plans in mind. Will he stop the Four Lords of Havoc or join them in their conquest of the world?
The initial part of the anime, encompassing the first 13 episodes, made its global debut on Netflix in June of last year. Subsequently, the second part, consisting of episodes 14 to 24, premiered on Netflix on September 15.
Hagiwara’s manga was first introduced in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1988. Following its original serialization in the magazine, the series experienced irregular releases and later found a new home in Ultra Jump, starting in 2001. The manga’s 27th compiled volume was published by Shueisha in March 2012, and it has garnered a substantial readership with over 30 million copies in circulation. While Viz Media initially released an English version of the manga, they ceased publication after the 19th volume. The planned release of the 20th volume in English was also canceled by the company.
The manga’s popularity led to the creation of a six-episode original video anime (OVA) series, which aired from 1992 to 1993. Geneon Entertainment, also known as Pioneer, handled the home video distribution of the anime.
